Doesn't look like it's crashing...

Code: Select all

[ 8895.014] (II) Server terminated successfully (0). Closing log file.
What does your ~/.xsession-errors show? (just any suspicious bits - don't just dump the whole log!)

I don't use KDE so have no particular insight into your issue, but it looks like something is happening prior to where that log starts as there seems to be a lot of things shutting down and exiting in a seemingly controlled fashion.
With all the stuff running in a KDE session, you've got a lot to investigate.
Probably try to identify some type of pattern with what you're doing and watch the logs and search up error messages that you don't understand.
Try shutting down some services and applets etc. to see if you can narrow down the problem.

Just crashed again.

~/.xsession-errors show:

Code: Select all

kmix(12344) context_state_callback: Connection to PulseAudio daemon closed. Attempting reconnection.
akonadicore_log: Socket error occurred: "QLocalSocket: Die Verbindung wurde von der Gegenseite geschlossen"
akonadicore_log: Socket error occurred: "QLocalSocket: Die Verbindung wurde von der Gegenseite geschlossen"
The X11 connection broke (error 1). Did the X11 server die?

So it is not related with the graphic card/driver or hardware but KDE.
In that case I can try another window manager and it shouldn't crash anymore.

Thanks!

No luck with different Xwindow :(
lxde crashed as well. :?

Meanwhile I made a fresh installation of DebianEdu.
Somehow I hope it won't appear anymore...

I have an older radeon board, and noticed that glamor with dri 3 works very well for 2d like moving windows around and stuff, but as soon as anything uses opengl, like compositing effects, or vlc with 'accelerated' ticked, or dragon player, the graphics slow wayyyy down to a crawl.

you could play with the radeon driver, it has a pretty good man page.

good luck

p.s. also I have noticed that radeon doesn't play nice with any of the 'vdpau' packages so I usually remove them.

Hi @ all!

The problem is not caused by the driver!
After playing some more time with this machine, I got the idea to create an different user. (first user with Debian-Edu is kind of a super user below "root".)
Therefore I've created a "teacher". I wanted to see if x-window crashing is also appering then.
And - no x-window crashes! I am using this machine now for some week and x-window didn't crash ones.

After logging in as "first user", x-window crashed after about 20-25 minutes logged-in time - again.

Honestly - as I ran out of investigation time, I just use the machine with "teacher" logged in and things are fine.

Thank you!

Wild guess. There is an IO error, it may be your hard drive has a bad sector and some configuration file in your home directory is corrupted.

Good point. The bad sector may be elsewhere and still affect only one user because of different desktop configuration.
