Re: Cloning package
To get what ? You shouldn't need any special packages, Debian comes with the commands and utilities to clone or copy most anything. But in any event, without a clue as to what you want to clone, no point in going any further. Is there some reason you are unable to do some searches ?Does anyone happen to know what package or packages I have to install to get this?
Here is some tips on keywords to use:
copy paste into you favourite search engine
keyw words:
Code: Select all
"Basic Linux commands"
what command can I use to clone something using Debian
=====================================
1 hit , of many: https://www.howtoforge.com/tutorial/lin ... l-example/
================================
Keywords:
Code: Select all
"How to use the dd command to clone something"
When you do the search for basic commands, you will see other commands that can be used, like "cp" "rsync",... "dd", etc. as well.
If there is some reason you are unable to do a search, that is ok, no problem, but it will be easier for every one if you at least try it. If we knew more specifics , like what it is you want to clone, then maybe some one could give some more specific instructions.
I did this search for you as well:
Cloning package for Debian
There are some packages as well that may be what you are looking for .
1 is https://packages.debian.org/jessie/apt-clone
But you really should look at the other results as well. (If you are able to).

Re: Cloning package
It seems to be a really common question for the forum, "What package do I need to install to do X?"
This kind of thinking is obviously influenced by other os, which encourages people to <CLICK HERE> to Solve X.
People really think there is ONE thing to do to solve an issue on linux. They don't realize there may be several, if not a DOZEN ways to solve a problem on linux.
I really feel bad for people stuck in this type of thinking. I had a teacher once that threatened to, "Drill a hole in your head and pour in the learning."
That would be quicker.

Re: Cloning package
The title is also ambiguous. Does the OP want to learn how to clone a package, or get a package that allows them to clone their install, or what?
