Hi,
Just installed debian 9 on x230 with intel N6205 wifi card. Followed all the infos for improving weak wifi.
/etc/modprobe.d/iwlwifi.conf contains the following:
ptions iwlwifi led_mode=1 power_save=0 11n_disable=8 swcrypto=1
#led_mode:0=system default, 1=On(RF On)/Off(RF Off), 2=blinking, 3=Off (default$
#power_save:enable WiFi power management (default: disable) (bool)
#11n_disable:disable 11n functionality, bitmap: 1: full, 2: disable agg TX, 4: $
#swcrypto:using crypto in software (default 0 [hardware]) (int)
However nothing is changed, wifi signal is still very weak. There is an W7 running on the same laptop. With that OS wifi signal is excellent. Is there a way to improve?
thanks

This hardware supports both the 2.4 and 5gHx bands
https://ark.intel.com/products/59471/In ... -Dual-Band
In general, 5gHz bands are stronger and less congested - the symptoms you describe could result from Windows using 5gHz and Debian using 2.4gHz

Re: thinkpad x230 debian 9 weak wifi
I have the same issue and followed this advice and created a WiFi "network" or "choice in my network manager" for 5gHz and the 2.4gHz. as well as conf advice mentioned by OP to no avail. At my desk (a floor above the access point) I'm getting 4Gb/s on my machine of concern while I get about 100Gb/s on my iPhone. Standing next to the access point I get about 170Gb/s on the machine of concern and ~550Gb/s on my iPhone. I have the same machine (Lenovo x320) running Debian 11 with the same Wi-Fi card as OP. Any Idea what this mean and if there is any way to fix it?shep wrote: ↑2018-03-30 20:22 This hardware supports both the 2.4 and 5gHx bands

Re: thinkpad x230 debian 9 weak wifi
Several options are available: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Networ ... ss#iwlwifi
I would also try disabling bt_coex_active. That might allow for cleaner signal reception. Use 'modinfo iwlwifi' to see all the options and what they do.
