Driver wifi b822 Realtek

#1 Post by juliensl »

Hello everyone,

I've a problem to use my wifi card with debian on my computer.
I already post on 2 differents french forums, but they didn't succeed to solve my problem.

A bought a new computer, an Asus, and my wifi card aren't recognized by my debian OS.

I installed a new kernel: stretch backports 4.16.0
and new realtek package firmware: firmware-realtek (20170823-1~bpo9+1)
But that don't work.

That's result of an lspci command:

Code: Select all

00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Device 5914 (rev 08)
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Device 5917 (rev 07)
00:04.0 Signal processing controller: Intel Corporation Skylake Processor Thermal Subsystem (rev 08)
00:14.0 USB controller: Intel Corporation Sunrise Point-LP USB 3.0 xHCI Controller (rev 21)
00:14.2 Signal processing controller: Intel Corporation Sunrise Point-LP Thermal subsystem (rev 21)

00:1c.5 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation Sunrise Point-LP PCI Express Root Port #6 (rev f1)
00:1e.0 Signal processing controller: Intel Corporation Sunrise Point-LP Serial IO UART Controller #0 (rev 21)
00:1e.2 Signal processing controller: Intel Corporation Sunrise Point-LP Serial IO SPI Controller #0 (rev 21)
00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corporation Device 9d4e (rev 21)
00:1f.2 Memory controller: Intel Corporation Sunrise Point-LP PMC (rev 21)
00:1f.3 Audio device: Intel Corporation Device 9d71 (rev 21)
00:1f.4 SMBus: Intel Corporation Sunrise Point-LP SMBus (rev 21)
01:00.0 3D controller: NVIDIA Corporation Device 1d10 (rev a1)
02:00.0 Network controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. Device b822

I succeed to use this wifi with a Arch-linux before, but I don't remember the kernel version that I used.

I hope you will can help me.

Sorry if my english isn't very good, I'm french

Thank you.

Julien.

This askubuntu thread suggests it works with 4.14 >>> https://askubuntu.com/questions/926364/ ... -on-ubuntu.

I WOULD NOT follow the Ubuntu instructions to install that kernel. It can be backported. Look here >>> http://jensd.be/818/linux/install-a-new ... tch-stable

Then get the firmware and install it in the location given.

Hi!

Thank you for your answer.

I cannot install the 4.14 kernel, when I search linux-image after added backport repo, I just have the possibility to install kernel 4.9 or 4.16...
Kernel 4.16 is already installed on my computer, so, i downloaded the firmware rtl8822befw.bin and copied to /lib/firmware/rtlwifi but it doesn't work... When I reboot I cannot connect my computer to wifi. :(

Now, I'm using a cellular hotspot with USB cable because I don't have ethernet connection on my computer.

Thank you for your help. :D

I don't understand, the card is listed in this output? Why do you say not recognized?
02:00.0 Network controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. Device b822
Check dmesg, does the firmware load? Is another firmware asked for? Do you have an interface listed with ip command?

This page seems to indicate that the "b822" is the Bluetooth part of the chipset: https://wikidevi.com/wiki/Realtek_RTL8812BU_USB_Module

Code: Select all

0bda:b822	Realtek Bluetooth 4.0 Adapter
Do you have a wired Net connection? If so, install inxi, update your pci and usb IDs as sysadmin:

Code: Select all

update-pciids
update-usbids
Then give us the result of

Code: Select all

inxi -N
for a better hardware readout.

You "could" try another non-free firmware file opposed to using backports.

Have a look in here and see if one will work
http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/unoff ... e/stretch/

I had a similar issue with a Realtek chipset based network adapter. As I recall the resolution I found was installing the 'linux-firmware-nonfree' package, this included the realtek drivers needed. This left me with an interesting side effect though, unless I manually connected to a network by entering in the login info as a hidden router, it would not connect to any network, just kept scanning and when I would click on a network they all reloaded and I had to select again, rinse and repeat. I finally said heck with that and got the venerable AWUS036NHA from Alfa Networks. Hope this helps and everything works out!
