Libreoffice stopped working after an update about 2 months or so ago. Instead it freezes at the splash screen. Sometimes the splash screen has 0% progress bar and sometimes 100% before staying in place. Sometimes it is replaced by black. I have to issue a "killall soffice.bin" to get rid of it as using xkill is not good enough. This has been going on for 2 months now. I have tried:

# apt purge libreoffice* && apt clean && apt autoremove

and tried to reinstall but nothing. I have also tried 1 month ago to rename my config directory (or file I don't remember) in my home dir to no avail. When I run from the terminal I see no error messages... the cursor goes to the next line and nothing.

I am using i3wm as my window manager so I tried lxde and it does the same thing.

How do I get past that splash screen.

Figured it out. When I did an strace I saw /proc/ati just before it freezes:

Code: Select all

$ strace /usr/lib/libreoffice/program/soffice.bin

So I restarted in safe mode "$ soffice --safe-mode" and told it not to use OPENGL. problem solved.
