USB Camera on Debian PC

Hi so I was hoping to use my PC running a Debian OS to run a USB webcam. The problem is I cannot run motion on it and I tried using cheese and that doesn't seem to work either.

Are there any methods I can use to run a webcam on my PC and allow me to see the live footage while its running.

Yea, an estimated million ways, you could watch it simply with a player, 'mpv /dev/video0' will do assuming it is video0 and you have mpv installed. You could even stream it over the network with VLC for instance.

I'm thinking about streaming it to a webpage any ideas how I could do that?
