so i happen to have an sdcard that is 16gb size that goes into my laptop.

what is the best use of this?
Desktop: A320M-A PRO MAX, AMD Ryzen 5 3600, GALAX GeForce RTX™ 2060 Super EX (1-Click OC) - Sid, Win10, Arch Linux, Gentoo, Solus
Laptop: hp 250 G8 i3 11th Gen - Sid

My suggestion, and I what I actually have right now, is that card being used as a backup for mission-critical files.
Running Debian on Dell: OptiPlex 3010, OptiPlex 7010, OptiPlex 9010, and Inspiron 1545.

wouldn't that be way too slow?

i think i'd use it for backups; if you exclude the right directories it might even hold a full system backup?

or just some extra data... maybe make it portable.

/tmp must be fast and stand repeated writes, just the opposite of an SD card.

i currently don't have swap so it can't be worse surely?

A slow and unreliable swap can be worse than no swap.
