Black screen...X does not starts until i move the mouse
I made an
apt-get upgrade
apt-get dist-upgrade
and now when the OS starts, stays all in black screen until i move the mouse....when i move the mouse, the screen turns on...but only if i move the mouse...pressing any key in the keyboard have no effect...
Using XFCE...

install haveged and your problem will go away, if you check your syslog (/var/log/syslog) it will likely have a reference to random: crng init done around the time of the screen actually appearing followed by another reference of random regarding warnings, they seem to be nothing to be alarmed about but are due to missing "entropy" which can be provided by the haveged package.

Re: Black screen...X does not starts until i move the mouse
I'm assuming the OP is using the same system as per previous posts so the system is likely a Buster system with some stable packages (If I remember correctly), also I have only noticed OP's problem with Buster as Stretch does not seem to be affected the same way.
Re: Black screen...X does not starts until i move the mouse
I don't know what would result from dist-upgrade with deb-multimedia.org repo enabled in sources.list, did you fix this first?
http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php? ... 50#p683831
I never have used dist-upgrade, but I've read that is the thing to do on testing, not sure about frankendebian.

Re: Black screen...X does not starts until i move the mouse
From the above link,
And take it more seriously:
=============A significant number of VLC users on Debian and Ubuntu appear to be hit by bugs in the unofficial so-called Debian Multimedia repository (debian-multimedia.org).
This unofficial package repository is well known to introduce incompatibilities in the FFMPEG libraries. This causes VLC media player and possibly some other multimedia software to stop working, as the FFMPEG binary interface is silently broken. The members of the VideoLAN project as well as the official Debian Multimedia maintainers[1] strongly advise that you do not use the Debian Multimedia repository under any circumstances. Before you report problems with VLC on Debian or Ubuntu, make sure you have not installed any package from that repository.
No mystery at all, that is what everyone here was trying to tell the OP, and not just the "multimedia", the OP also has Debian testing, mixed with Debian Stable, people should read this: https://wiki.debian.org/DontBreakDebianwell...the mistery was solved
And take it more seriously:
And why do we have 2 topics, http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php? ... 50#p684150 on the same problem, ? it sure makes things confusing. After all said and done, it is another: I mixed and matched various repos, and now my FrankenDebian does not work: Repo mix-and-match hit paradeDon't make a FrankenDebian
Debian Stable should not be combined with other releases. If you're trying to install software that isn't available in the current Debian Stable release, it's not a good idea to add repositories for other Debian releases. The problems might not happen right away, but the next time you install updates.
The reason things can break is because the software packaged for one Debian release is built to be compatible with the rest of the software for that release. For example, installing packages from buster on a stretch system could also install newer versions of core libraries including libc6. This results in a system that is not testing or stable but a broken mix of the two.
Repositories that can create a FrankenDebian if used with Debian Stable:
Debian testing release (currently buster)
Debian unstable release (also known as sid)
Ubuntu, Mint or other derivative repositories are not compatible with Debian!
Ubuntu PPAs

Re: Black screen...X does not starts until i move the mouse
I am pretty sure the OP has posted a different problem here to the other post you linked to, and the issue and solution (to this post) had already been posted before the OP stated they still have the VLC issue as a side note, so your ramblings about VLC issue would seem (to me at least) to be somewhat off-topic and trollish in content.GarryRicketson wrote:And why do we have 2 topics, http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php? ... 50#p684150 on the same problem, ? it sure makes things confusing. I know this is your usual type of post and does indeed carry some useful information but I fail to see how most of it pertains to this thread.
Isn't this one of the major advantages of Linux over other OS's, we have a choice... I personally use the Debian repositories for 95% of all my software, but sometimes I try other things too (not on my production machine though).debiman wrote:also, why in $DEITY's name did you install vlc with snap? why not just install vlc from the repos???

It pertains because using third party repos is always pertinent when asking for support?Dai_trying wrote:[... I fail to see how most of it pertains to this thread.

thanks for everyone whos help me out...
the issue actually was the debian multimedia repository...it was the guilty......

The problems associated with mixing Debian versions and adding repos from random websites vary, but the cause of them is still the same.DRAGSTER_TUNER wrote:well...the mistery was solved...theres nothing to do...i have to wait until a decent solutiondebiman wrote:^ this is very similar to what we criticized in your last thread!!!!

Re: Black screen...X does not starts until i move the mouse
If the cause of the issue of this post is repo mixing or using deb multimedia repo how come I have had this same issue on a "Pure Debian Buster" installation???GarryRicketson wrote:I admit , I guess they are 2 different problems, but the cause of the problems is the same:

Re: Black screen...X does not starts until i move the mouse
The cause of the problem in the OP is kernel-related, the haveged package is a work-around for an upstream issue, IIRC.
That the OP was running a FrankenDebian is a separate problem but also connected because the OP would not have experienced this problem with pure Debian stable.

Are you saying this problem will not arise if using the backported kernel? or would that be considered not "pure debian stable"?Head_on_a_Stick wrote:The cause of the problem in the OP is kernel-related, the haveged package is a work-around for an upstream issue, IIRC.

Re: Black screen...X does not starts until i move the mouse
I don't know when the problem started but I think it was a while ago so I would expect that the backported kernel would also be affected, but I'm not sure.Dai_trying wrote:Are you saying this problem will not arise if using the backported kernel?
Well, backports are always a risk, I would never advise using the backported kernel unless there was a specific reason to do so, such as hardware support.Dai_trying wrote:would that be considered not "pure debian stable"?

Re: Black screen...X does not starts until i move the mouse
The OP was using testing (+dmo) before the problem started, see the first post. I added a link that showed this, with sources.list. The OP said problem started after an apt command. The 3rd party repo use was not mentioned in the problem, nor the testing repo, and arguing about it is pretty silly. The OP is doing some weird things, now people are spending time arguing instead of solving problems.
FWIW I have not seen the entropy problem on stretch, even when using the backported kernels. Stretch does still have a lot of issues that linger from way on back, and so I hope the upcoming freeze/release cycle for buster does not distract people from solving these very old problems on stable. Buster should be the absolute best debian ever, close to a bullseye. No need to rush things. Forwarding old bugs on stretch to buster would be a grave mistake IMO, and would hurt debian's future development very seriously.
Sometimes I feel that nobody in this forum actually uses debian stable. The way you people answer threads makes me wonder...
