Midori 6.0-can someone file bugreport to request update?

#1 Post by stevepusser »

I managed to build packages for this lightweight browser for Stretch-based MX 17, so a real Debian maintainer shouldn't have any problem getting it into upstream, and then it can eventually get into stretch-backports.

The new version uses libwebkit2gtk instead of the old libwebkit, and the new engine seems to be getting frequent updates in stretch-backports, so that addresses the issue with the older Midori using an browser backend that was full of security holes.

Edit: I did create a repo for it along with the latest webkit2 on the OBS for Stretch and some recent Ubuntus: https://build.opensuse.org/package/show ... rts/midori

All packages should be done pretty soon.

Update: one of the Ubuntu webkit2 builds ran out of RAM--apparently 12 GB was not enough with eight threads--so I requested 16 GB and started the builds again. Stretch did succeed, though.

So it's still pretty much alive I though it was dead.
Does this still belong to Xfce project?
https://goodies.xfce.org/projects/applications/midori
https://wiki.xfce.org/midori/faq
or is it already become independent again?
or just been archive & forgotten like xfce4-icon-theme, xfce4-artworks source?

+1 upvote from me! How do I bug report such a request?

I like Midori. It seems viable..

Midori and full recommends is what caused this issue:

Basically, you install reportbug, then file a bug report saying that the 6.0 release is much improved and it needs updating in the repository.

It doesn't use any XFCE libraries; maybe they were associated because of similar philosophies: both are fast, lightweight, and based on GTK+. This new version switches to GTK+ 3, like it or not.

Speaking of rising from the grave, 6.0 was released on Halloween...(cue Thriller dance scene)
