Problems installing Realtek AC600 USB Wireless adapter

#1 Post by appealsman »

Been trying all day to make this work. It is a Rosewill RNX-AC600HGUBEv2 wireless adapter. Installed the 8168-dkms driver, as well as the realtek deb package. No wlan0 or other wireless interface showing up under iwconfig. LSPCI shows the chipset as 8111/8168/8411. Linux driver that came with adapter didn't work, the install.sh script returned an error code 2. The driver which came on the cd with the adapter is named rtl8821au.

appealsman,

8168 is for wired NIC, it will not help you with wireless at all. Surprisingly enough, USB devices do not show in lspci ... but then again they show in lsusb ...

Try downloading the driver source from here: https://github.com/abperiasamy/rtl8812AU_8821AU_linux The CD driver might be too old for the 4.9 kernel.

It builds on the 4.18 kernel, so should be good with the Debian 4.9 one as long as you have the kernel headers and compilers installed (requires a Net connection beforehand!) It's a good idea to install the dkms as explained in the README.md file, too.
