About broadband speed

#1 Post by satimis »

Hi all,

Desktop PC Spec
AMD 8-core CPU
RAM 32G
HD 2TB SSD
Network Card 1G

FTTH Broadband - Symmetrical Connection
500M up/down

Recently I found the speed of my FTTH Broadband is slow on browsing Internet. I don't know whether it is the speed problem of my FTTH Broadband or the problem of the websites being browsed.

Please advise which will be the reliable way checking broadband speed.

Thanks in advance.

Regards
satimis

Remember to test this using a cable and not over wifi, as your wireless device may limit your measured speed.

Are you sure your browser isn't slowing down? Try clearing history and cookies and turning off all extensions to test it. Try other browsers.

I have a suspicion that a slow drive can imitate a slow Internet connection. The old hard drive in my laptop was showing signs of trauma so I replaced it with a solid state and magically all sorts of activities sped up.

Yes, for sure. I have nominal 300Mbs fiber. When I test my speed over wireless, I generally get speeds around 90Mbs. If I plug into the router with a cable, I get in the 290's.

Either way, fast enough for me.
