how does install debian on ssd?

#1 Post by leeshasr »

Thanks !
I have a notebook computer Thinkpad T420. Running Debian testing, has never been a problem.
Now, I upgraded the Thinkpad, removed the CD-ROM drive, connected the HDD to the drive, and installed a solid-state disk(SSD),In the original hard drive. Solid state drives are available in the original Debian system, no problem, and WINDOWS 7 can be installed on the solid state hard disk, and successfully started.
Now I want to install Debian9.6 on SSD, with USB Sticker boot and install Debian system on SSD, but restart the system, to boot the Debian on SSD failed. can only boot Debian on HDD. Can't start from solid state hard disk.
how to solve this problem?

the SSD information:
root@debian:/home/lee# fdisk -l /dev/sda
Disk /dev/sda: 477 GiB, 512110190592 bytes, 1000215216 sectors
Disk model: HS-SSD-C160
Units: sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disklabel type: gpt
Disk identifier: 5EFEAEDE-66F9-47F1-A4CB-04E195BE3FBE

Device Start End Sectors Size Type
/dev/sda1 2048 1050623 1048576 512M EFI System
/dev/sda2 1050624 1550335 499712 244M Linux filesystem
/dev/sda3 1550336 1000214527 998664192 476.2G Linux LVM

Thanks!

Where did you instruct the installer to place the bootloader?

What happens when you try to boot the SSD, exactly? What do you see on the screen?

Please also post the output of this command from your working system:

Code: Select all

efibootmgr -v
Thanks!
