Re: Install debian 9 on Hp Stream Laptop 14-ax010nl [SOLVED]
Re: Install debian 9 on Hp Stream Laptop 14-ax010nl [SOLVED]
I tried:
debian-live-9.7.0-amd64-gnome.iso
firmware-9.6.0-amd64-DVD-1.iso
debian-9.5.0-amd64-DVD-1.iso
but failed to mount/load cd insert media with the driver of the cd reader or manually selected it ...
There is no cd reader on this pc! I am using a bootable usb.
Maybe I can mount the usb manually and select it? But if I open the tty2 the tty1 crashes...
The net installer works but missing firmware:
iwlwifi-7265D-26.ucode, iwlwifi-7265D-25.ucode, iwlwifi-7265D-24.ucode, iwlwifi-7265D-23-ucode, iwlwifi-7265D-22.ucode.
The iwlwifi package doesn 't have this files.
There is no ethernet cable only wi-fi
If I add a w-ifi usb I miss another one: mt7601u.bin.
I found this file on a debian package I copied it on a fat32 formatted usb stick but nothing.
I connected the modem with the pc with a usb cable but nothing. My modem has 2 usb.
Now I have the OS installed but only the minimal (because I did not have internet). I copied the mt7601u.bin to the firmware but I get an error.
If I use tasksel nothing happen.
Edit: I just found the firmware net installer https://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/unof ... d64/bt-cd/ I am trying it.

The firmware package from stretch-backports does:Scorpion wrote:The net installer works but missing firmware:

http://deb.debian.org/debian/pool/non-f ... +1_all.deb
However, at this late stage in stretch's life cycle it is likely that you will need several more backported packages (the kernel and the graphics stack for a start) to get decent support for your hardware, search the forum for threads about this (there are a *lot* of them).
What is the error?Scorpion wrote:I copied the mt7601u.bin to the firmware but I get an error.

Yes, just use the packages website linked in my last post and download the .debs then transfer those across and `dpkg -i *.deb` them.Scorpion wrote:Can I download from another pc gnome? And install it offline?

I copied the file to /lib/firmware.
Now it has the fimrware but a new error in dmseg about that.
Can a newer kernel help?
Apt update doesn' t work so no internet.
Tasksel (installed) does nothing.
It should open that screen.
What installer will have no problem with this pc?

Difficult to say without knowing the exact errors but I would expect so.Scorpion wrote:I copied the file to /lib/firmware.

There is an alpha-5 installer available for Debian buster but the full freeze hasn't started yet so there may be some teething problems and the packages haven't been tested to the same extent as with stretch.Scorpion wrote:What installer will have no problem with this pc?
I would personally use Arch Linux on brand new hardware, or Parabola if you're an RMS fan, they always have the latest packages so support for brand new hardware tends to be pretty good. And unlike testing/unstable the entire system is updated in concert and so tends to be more consistently reliable (IMO).

That link is the one that I tried there are not the missing firmware of this pc.
The firmware of the wi-fi usb is in https://packages.debian.org/stretch-bac ... sc-nonfree.

Re: Install debian 9 on Hp Stream Laptop 14-ax010nl
You could try MX Linux 18 in a Live session to see if it works with your hardware. It's on a Stretch base, but with a newer kernel, Mesa, firmware, etc., to support newer hardware. If MX works, then you know Stretch will with backports or packages from my own new-hardware-support repo:Head_on_a_Stick wrote:Difficult to say without knowing the exact errors but I would expect so.Scorpion wrote:I copied the file to /lib/firmware.

I am fairy sure that some one posted about installing Debian Stretch on this exact model here a few years ago. Try to search the forum.

Re: Install debian 9 on Hp Stream Laptop 14-ax010nl
The instructions to install GNOME are a thousand time more complex if you don't have a Net connection.
Nobody wants to write that out, so I suggest you get wi-fi working, get a Net connection, then installing GNOME is a simple one-liner with just a few words.

Using the dvd as a source is gnome easy to install?
I cannot find the wifi card model, and the wifi usb stick is a based on the chipset MediaTek MT7601U.
With the firmware seems fine. I was able to scan.
So now to connect via cli:
What is mode? Is the password?

Now edit /etc/network/interfaces. The required configuration is much dependent on your particular setup. See the following example to get an idea of how it works:
Code: Select all
# my wifi device
auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp
wireless-essid [ESSID]
wireless-mode [MODE] mode????

I was thinking of this, but this is not the same model I guess, but older (although I didn't have time to check if any of the differences in specs are relevant)Scorpion wrote:I did not find it, If you can...

Using the a phone and usb tethering I reinstalled the OS with the net installer.
But when it ask for the firmware i was not able to provide it. Do I need the .deb file? I use the .bin (for the wireless adapter).
Doesn debian support the wireless card? http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05227771

I did what the guide states about the missing firmware. Maybe there is some problem with this pc,
Still some questions with no answer, but the important is that:
Everything is fine: wireless card, microphone, bluetooth, speakers and touchpad.
I did not try the camera.
In that package there are not that firmware but it works.
Thanks.
