I have downloaded and installed the packages from Epson several times. Debian can "see" the scanner but when I try to run iscan I get the "cannot communicate with scanner" (or something like that error). I've tried various fixes that I found through googling the issue but nothing seems to work, or else the solutions just don't make sense to me. Please note that I am reasonably tech savvy, but brand new to linux.
The scanner and software DO work under Windows 10, although once in a while it fails to recognise it.
I've completely uninstalled the packages with synaptic in order to try to start from scratch.
Thanks for any assistance you can offer me.

Re: Trying to install Epson Perfection v600
I bought one of these in a thrift shop.
I can scan normally but I cannot use the photo scanning light.

I've already found those links but I didn't find them very helpful.arochester wrote:I bought one of these in a thrift shop.

I'm going to try a fresh install and see if I can get anywhere.

Re: Trying to install Epson Perfection v600
In order to copy slides I had to borrow a Windows Computer...
Re: Trying to install Epson Perfection v600
Why's that? The image scan software?arochester wrote:In order to copy slides I had to borrow a Windows Computer...
Anyway... I've managed to get the scanner working. I don't know which of these steps made the difference, but the two things I did were:
1. Reset BIOS to default configuration
2. Completely uninstalled the packages
3. Opened the archives and installed EACH deb package individually. I did this twice: once the the first time, then again after a fresh install. The install file provided by Epson doesn't work for me.
The next thing I am about to deal with is the image scan software.. It looks a lot more crude and is missing features that are in the Windows version.
(edit)
Apparently... nope... those features simply aren't in the linux program. Lame.
