Are these error critical?

Hello.
After upgrading Debian 8.11 to Debian 9.9 x86_64, I can see some errors in "dmesg":

Code: Select all

$ sudo dmesg -k -l err,warn

2 first and 2 last are not errors, I guess. Just info.

How about:

Code: Select all

update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-4.9.0-9-amd64
W: Possible missing firmware /lib/firmware/rtl_nic/rtl8107e-2.fw for module r8169
W: Possible missing firmware /lib/firmware/rtl_nic/rtl8107e-1.fw for module r8169
W: Possible missing firmware /lib/firmware/rtl_nic/rtl8168h-2.fw for module r8169
W: Possible missing firmware /lib/firmware/rtl_nic/rtl8168h-1.fw for module r8169

That cannot be more self-explanatory, yes? It is complaining about missing firmware files. Sometimes headers files are missing for your kernel or even specific firmware files required by your ethernet card or so...

But I'm no one to explain anything. I'm also learning about many things in Debian/Linux. Have you checked for what hardware are those files for? D you have that hardware in your machine?

Looks like you have a bad sector, try fsck(8).

You can enter the firmware file name into the package contents search box on the Debian packages page to find the package for that.

Or use

Code: Select all

# apt install apt-file
# apt-file update
apt-file search /lib/firmware/rtl_nic/rtl8107e-2.fw
deadbang

I searched "rtl8107e-2" in Synaptic but can't find anything.

Yea, but if you looked at the link, you would have seen it also includes options for stetch, and stretch-backports , in the upper right, the OP can select which one they want.

Still the same link, but with "stretch" in the url just in case the OP can't figure it out. https://packages.debian.org/stretch/firmware-realtek

I changed my "source.list" file as below:

Code: Select all

deb http://deb.debian.org/debian stretch main
deb-src http://deb.debian.org/debian stretch main

deb http://deb.debian.org/debian-security/ stretch/updates main
deb-src http://deb.debian.org/debian-security/ stretch/updates main

deb http://deb.debian.org/debian stretch-updates main
deb-src http://deb.debian.org/debian stretch-updates main

# Contrib non-free

deb http://deb.debian.org/debian stretch main contrib non-free
deb-src http://deb.debian.org/debian stretch main contrib non-free

deb http://deb.debian.org/debian-security/ stretch/updates main contrib non-free
deb-src http://deb.debian.org/debian-security/ stretch/updates main contrib non-free

deb http://deb.debian.org/debian stretch-updates main contrib non-free
deb-src http://deb.debian.org/debian stretch-updates main contrib non-free

# Stretch-backports

deb http://deb.debian.org/debian stretch-backports main contrib non-free
deb-src http://deb.debian.org/debian stretch-backports main contrib non-free
But when I run "apt-get update" then it show me:

Is it because of duplicate lines?

Thanks.

Yes you are correct sorry about that.

I should have actually looked before I ran my lips.
