where to find aht10k pre-cal-pci

#1 Post by Chrisdb »

hellow,

I've recently installed buster and when I start my system, I get the following messages:

Code: Select all

Jul 19 13:50:47 debian kernel: ath10k_pci 0000:01:00.0: firmware: failed to load ath10k/pre-cal-pci-0000:01:00.0.bin (-2)
Jul 19 13:50:47 debian kernel: firmware_class: See https://wiki.debian.org/Firmware for information about missing firmware
Jul 19 13:50:47 debian kernel: ath10k_pci 0000:01:00.0: firmware: failed to load ath10k/cal-pci-0000:01:00.0.bin (-2)
My wifi is working fine, but I want to get rid of these messages :D . I tried downloading the firmware (nonfree), but only 'board.bin' and 'firmware-6.bin' are available.
Does anyone know where I can find and download both 'pre-cal-pci-0000:01:00.0.bin' and 'cal-pci-0000:01:00.0.bin'?

Thx

When I try apt install, I get:

Code: Select all

firmware-atheros is already the newest version (20190114-1)
Also, I find it strange that the nonfree buster installation contains firmware-5.bin for my atheros card because I get the following error in my journal:

Code: Select all

Jul 19 20:48:01 debian kernel: ath10k_pci 0000:01:00.0: firmware: failed to load ath10k/QCA9377/hw1.0/firmware-6.bin (-2)
So for this issue I downloaded the firmware separately from the debian site and this package did contain version 6. I installed it in /lib/firmware/xxx and now the message is gone...

But sadly I can't seem to find the other bin files anywhere ....

I know, that's why I said I want to get rid of the messages.... :D

Not clear what you have now. Try this:

Code: Select all

wget http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/pool/non-free/f/firmware-nonfree/firmware-atheros_20190502-1_all.deb
sudo dpkg -i firmware-atheros_20190502-1_all.deb

sudo dpkg -i firmware-atheros_20190502-1_all.deb
Ok, now I've got firmware-6.bin, but still both 'pre-cal-pci-0000:01:00.0.bin' and 'cal-pci-0000:01:00.0.bin' are not present... :(

If everything works well, is it a real problem for you if you get a system warning that some "pre-cal-pci" optional files are missing ?
https://unix.stackexchange.com/question ... 0k-cal-pci

It can happen that some optional files are missing from free nonfree-firmware.
Is it a real problem or not: this is the question.

I am used for years to get this warning message for tda1004x
* tda1004x: found firmware revision 0 -- invalid
* tda1004x: trying to boot from eeprom

But, ... everything works well ! So I don't care of this message.

Hey L_V,

I used to run arch before because it had a newer kernel. As Debian now has kernel 4.19, my hardware is fully supported, so I retried Debian.
When I ran arch (when it was also running kernel 4.19), I did not get these messages.

I'm just wondering what the difference is....

Hi,
I am trying to install buster and i get the same message on the detect network hardware.
Do i leave this as is or do i have to load the missing firmware?

Ok. If you are lazy to look here is quote:

Inside package I can see several .bin but with names such as firmware-5, board.bin etc. So how do I know which one is the correct?

The original warning message had the wiki link with the freaking answers! https://wiki.debian.org/Firmware

If you can't bother to actually read the output, maybe Debian is not the distro for you.

Maybe you are not the one to decide this for me or anyone else.
