Non-free debian zoomed in!

#1 Post by asd1234 »

Hello,

I have tried so many times to install Debian on my computer and had to install non-free Debian because I need the drivers to connect to WiFi. When I go into the new installation, everything is extremely zoomed in. The screen ratio fits the monitor but is probably 1000% zoomed in and really bad quality. I also have dual monitors. This is only a problem on Debian but ubuntu, kali, manjaro, and more works fine. I have done this multiple times with the same result on the different non-free Debian images. I have even tried a Debian based distro with same result. I have asked help on stack overflow only to be told to do xrandr stuff and nothing helped online. I need to know if anyone else has had the same problem or knows how to fix it. If anything I would like to know why this is caused on Debian and not any other distro, tried ubuntu, manjaro, kali, many more and no problem.

Thank you in advance.

monitor: LG FLATRON W2242P (I have dual monitors)
computer: DELL opitplex 780
screen ratio: 1680x1050 60hz

Dell OptiPlex 780 has several configurations.
Which video-card do you have?

The specks says "Graphics: AMD® Caicos".
I am using 2 graphics cards for both monitors.

Code: Select all

$ lspci | grep VGA
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Caicos PRO [Radeon HD 7450]
04:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Caicos [Radeon HD 6450/7450/8450 / R5 230 OEM]
I think that is what they are.

Thanks.

I found a driver for my graphics card for Linux. here https://driversupdatecenter.net/drivers ... river&p=28 and I get a file called AMD with no file type. Should I use this? and how?

Caicos should work with free/libre xserver-xorg-video-radeon package.
Maybe it needs (non-free) firmware-amd-graphics package, too.

Install the CPU microcode as well.

I'm pretty sure you didn't search for a solution before posting, we have had *many* threads about graphics support and firmware.

I feel another [FAQ] coming on...

Sorry, I meant when I installed the drivers nothing happened and everything was still zoomed in. Are there other drivers I need?

Please install a package called inxi and run

Code: Select all

inxi -G
and post the result here.
It's a very useful hardware info program and will tell us exactly which drivers and hardware are in use.

Giving up so quickly is an attitude that won't bode well with Linux.
