I ran Jessie 9 with Skype for Linux with no significant problems for 2 years or so. The PC is an Asus laptop. Skype is version 8.50.0.38.
After upgrading to Buster 10 about 3 weeks ago, the Skype app. has two problems - both sound and video.
The sound now produced by the laptop built-in microphone and speakers is badly distorted and has loud crackles. However when I use a headset connected by input jacks the sound is OK. (I refer to tests with the Skype call test facility. also to Skype-Skype calls.) The sound is OK via the laptop speakers when I play a video.
There is no video image in Skype at all. The laptop camera is working OK, as shown by tests using VLC to image my face similar to the way that Skype should work.
I did not have either of these problems when running Jessie.
I have un-installed Skype and re-installed it, with no improvement.
I will be very grateful for any help with these problems.
DocTom.

Re: Skype Broken after Upgrade to Buster
I have asked for help from Microsoft/Skype, but with no solution.
I installed SkypeforLinux from the Skype download page.
In my last upgrade of Debian a few days ago, Skype was upgraded to version 8.51.0.72 - the latest version - and suddenly the video system works.
However, the sound is not improved. I posted the problem here as I thought that other Debian users may have suffered the same problem and found a solution, particularly as there are suggestions on the web that it may be something to do with the Pulseaudio package.
Many thanks for your interest and assistance. DocTom.

Re: Skype Broken after Upgrade to Buster
My skype audio did the same a while ago (on a Jessie box - and I never used video) and i had a couple of lazy pokes at fixing it but didn't immediately succeed.
My solution was to not use skype any more
