Grub boot resolution

HI all,

So I want to change the resolution of my system startup.
I am on a high resolution screen and card, but the boot up messages are really big due to a small resolution.

I went into /etc/default and changed the grub file to specify a higher resolution that my card supports, i choose GRUB_GFXMODE=1920x1440 as a test.
I then ran update-grub and rebooted.

Nothing changed at all, so i guess i'm missing a something somewhere, any help appreciated.

*UPDATE*

So I managed to set the grub resolution by running videoinfo at the grub prompt, and selecting a resolution from the list.
However this does not change the bootup resolution at all.

Where is this set?

What is your graphics card and drivers?

Ah I figured it out, I was missing the following line in my grub file

GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX=1920x1200x32

After adding this and updating the config, everything works as expected...

Good work. I've been wanting to reduce the resolution on my tower system. I've gone from 1920x1080 to 640x480.
