Maintaing linux-image (meta-package) from both vanilla & bpo

#1 Post by DebbyIan »

I have installed linux-image (meta-package) and also have bpo in my sources. I haven't yet run "apt upgrade -t bpo-repo" but if I do then linux-image (meta-package) wants to be upgraded overriding the vanilla kernel with the bpo kernel. How can I have both the vanilla and a bpo kernel installed?

Code: Select all

$ sudo apt-cache search linux-image

You can't, they're both the same package as far as APT is concerned.

As far as I know, you can have just one of the metapackages installed. That doesn't prevent you also manually installing any of the actual kernel and header packages you want, though.
