Help installing Acrobat Reader

#1 Post by ckosloff »

I need to fill some damn XFA forms and Okular does not support that.
So I need to use the Adobe Acrobat Reader, but Adobe no longer supports Linux.
This used to be possible in the past.
What can I do now?

Master PDF Editor is also closed-source, but has a free version and is actively developed, and supports forms.

Not knowing what an XFA form is, I web searched. Apparently there are also some browser plugins.

The Ubuntu debs are compatible with Debian. Scroll down to see the difference between the free unregistered version and the commercial version. If you pay, then you unlock those features, but you can continue to use it for free, too. I use it as a PDF viewer because it renders PDFs very fast.

It might be possible to run the Windows Acrobat Reader in Wine still, but many people don't want to get into those complications.

Hi,

Ive just downloaded this document from Spanish Public Administration
https://www.agenciatributaria.es/static ... _mi_MI.pdf

And I wasnt able to edit it with Master-pdf-editor(v4), I also couldnt with AdobeReader9.. but I had no problems with Acrobat 7.x; Acorbat 7 is one of the vesion that works better with wine, thought is some few years old It works very well, and I think its some east to deploy... you just need to download the software anywhere..

here, you can see Acrobat 7 is rated Silver, It works most of features and most of times in my experiencei
https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager. ... on&iId=847

I was able to edit it and print it as well with success!!

To me Acrobat 7 (with wine) has been the best solution Ive found to manage with PDF edition and forms, you could also have a virtual XP ready for these propietary issues.. :o

Just upload the file to the site and then download the edited version when you've finished.

You can fill in forms with the free version. Editing is reserved to the paid version.

About your suggestion for the full blown Acrobat:
you just need to download the software anywhere...
by that, are you suggesting a pirated version, since that software is not freeware?

There is a free .deb but it is for Ubuntu, compatible with Debian?
I am terrified of installing something that would break a very stable system that I use for work.

Just upload the file to the site and then download the edited version when you've finished.
The interface is so confusing that I got lost, cannot see where to upload/download, mind helping?

Last Version of Master Pdf Edition (master-pdf-editor-5.4.38-qt5.amd64.deb), was able to fill forms in document.

Acrobat Reader DC (wine) (works with forms)
If You're not able also install Acrobat Reader DC using wine and working, then you can have it working by using snaps.:
sudo snap install acrordrdc
