Azote

Azote is a GTK3-based picture browser and a wallpaper setter, as the frontend to the swaybg (Sway/Wayland) and feh (X windows) commands.

Image

It runs under Wayland natively (ie, without xwayland), unlike other wallpaper setting GUIs.

Packages for Debian stretch, buster & sid here:

https://software.opensuse.org//download ... kage=azote

That repository also includes sway v1.1.1 for buster & sid (built from the experimental sources):

Gimp RESYNTHESIZER
Resynthesize is a very powerful and versatile tool. It helps you to Add Texture, Export Texture and also makes your image tileable. You can also put output to the bordering pixels. Resynthesize functions by copying pixels, one by one, from input to the output.

Example Use.:

A generic, simple, and very useful program-terminal emulator under the title-kitty. Kitty is designed for power keyboard users. To that end all its controls work with the keyboard (although it fully supports mouse interactions as well). Its configuration is a simple, human editable, single file for easy reproducibility. The code in kitty is designed to be simple, modular and hackable. It is written in a mix of C (for performance sensitive parts) and Python (for easy hackability of the UI). It does not depend on any large and complex UI toolkit, using only OpenGL for rendering everything. This wonderful terminal emulator is in official Debian Buster repo. You can install it as simple as

Code: Select all

sudo apt install kitty

However, this program does not exist in Debian Stretch repo...So it will be a good opportunity to go to Debian Buster land :D

Here link to official website and here screenshot of kitty in action:

IMO snaps are a really bad idea on Debian, maybe slightly less so on *buntu. Appimage seems to be a much better system.
There's no way I would consider any of these universal self-contained package systems where a native application with anywhere near the same functionality exists even if only for the size consideration. One package I recently looked at was over 30MB whereas the native application was about 5MB. :o

Adobe Reader, is a great idea under snap, becouse you need this software for filling some pdf's forms, and install it is kind of difficult with wine; because you need a specific wine version and that force you to build that wine's version or install playonlinux, which force you to install hundreds of 32bits libraries packages what is a mess for a x64 system in my opinion. Anyway all of that is a huge waste of time and efforts , just to have adobe installed in linux..

I really like snaps, Ive replaced native okular pdf reader with snaps's to enjoy last version..
I also have installed under snap: drive (google drive client) and john-the-ripper , just three applications.

And yeah, snaps and flatpak are a eater disk space, but they're suppose to be used just for a few applications we can't geat easily under native apps.

Aegisub
Aegisub is a free, cross-platform open source tool for creating and modifying subtitles. Aegisub's goal is to support using these advanced functions with ease.
Aegisub makes it quick and easy to time subtitles to audio, and features many powerful tools for styling them, including a built-in real-time video preview.
Aegisub natively works with the Advanced SubStation Alpha format (aptly abbreviated ASS) which allows for many advanced effects in the subtitles, apart from just basic timed text.
http://www.aegisub.org

Image

We could use this software for moving to parts of a video, by using "search next" and detaching Video window; I made following script for that purpose.:
Aegisub.sh

Code: Select all

#!/bin/bash
#
#Aegisub - Editor de subtitulos , subtitles
# Get Window ID
WID=`xdotool search --name aegisub | tail -n 1`
#Key F3 busca siguiente (search next - Aegisub)
xdotool windowactivate $WID key F3
#Ctrl+P Play highlighted subtítulo - Aegisub)
xdotool windowactivate $WID key Ctrl+p

1. Nomacs: An light weight image viewer/ editing tool. Similar to Irfanview in windows.
2. Flameshot: An screenshot application and annotation tool, Similar to sniping tool in windows.
3. Redshift: An color temperature control app in Linux. It has a simple config file. Similar to the windows 10 color temp control setting but in windows it changes only in night. This app changes the color temperature throughout the day so you won't notice the abrupt difference.
4. moc: It is a console music player, it has settings in a plain text config file, easier to setup compared to cmus and other console music player.
