[SOLVED] Install Debian on to USB Stick

#1 Post by getcracking »

Hello Forum

I try to install and run Debian from a USB thumb drive (not a live version).

I've got an iMac lat 2013 that can EFI Boot just fine. I use two USB thumb drives, one with the installation image on and an empty one (both 32GB and moderately fast).

When I boot from the USB thumb drive with the installation image on, everything works fine, until it comes to partitioning an formatting the second USB stick.

I get the error message that the disk is to small, or the free space is to small. However I try to format the thumb drive it doesnt work.

Would be great if someone could come up with a tip how to solve this!

Switch to TTY4 to see the full error messages (and post them here). Are you sure the correct device is selected?

I always partition & format the drives before running the installer, perhaps try that.

Re: Install Debian on to USB Stick

#4 Post by getcracking »

I got it solved now. Had an old Windows laptop laying around and installed it from there with no issues.
It had to do with incompatible USB 3 port from iMac.
