Unable to start Luckybackup

I have a Debian based system based on (called Sparkylinux) with a Liquorix kernel, I am running the XFCE desktop

I have installed Luckybackup (o.5.0-2+b2) but the superuser menu entry fails to start the program, it brings up the password box for me to enter my password but it does not launch the program.

If I run the same command from the cli I get the following error:

I appreciate this is not true Debian and has mixed repos but I am just asking if anybody can suggest what the issue could be?

If I understand you correctly you are saying that iLuckybacxkup is not launching on my system as that library is missing from Debian (and no it is not on my system), could you please advise how you reached that point please

You should know if /usr/lib/*-linux-gnu/qt5/plugins/platforms/libqxcb.so exists in your system. It should if libqt5gui5 is installed.

However, you are using sparkylinux, and they don't have any luckybackup package.
Then ask sparkylinux how to correctly install luckybackup !
If you even don't know how to verify if a file is available in your system, I am afraid sparkylinux is going to be hard for you.

I am on debian testing kde and I have the same error. Luckybackup does not run in root mode. In the terminal I get exactly the same error as in the first message.

SparkyLinux follows completely the Debian LTS line of working,
https://sparkylinux.org/sparky-5-9/
so if it works on Debian it should work here too...

And peer just reported a similar problem on Debian.....

I've been playing around with SparkyLinux too as it is a lighter version of Debian, but my preference of now for those cases MX-Linux which also follows completely the Debian LTS line of working.

Hope you'll find a solution.

libqt5core5a/testing does not come from Debian stable which is buster.
testing means testing.
If you want something stable", then use stable.

Just make a netinstall of pure Debian and do not install any desktop during installation process.
Then reboot, add this file /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/50norecommends

apt update , and then install exactly what you need (this is what I always do).

luckybackup is not maintained anymore (or less and less).
In KDE, you can investigate kup-backup , or simply grsync which is a very light GUI layer on top of rsync.

** luckyBackup superuser does not start **.
Due to a change of many distros policy, su-to-root is depracated from menu items and it cannot be used to run LB with super-user privileges.
Please use an alternative like the sudo -H luckybackup command or pkexec together with a suitable policykit if you need to run LB as root, until this issue is resolved.

I like MX-Linux more but do not want to set Sparkylinux back in this way.

It did get 9 / 9+ the past years, including 2018/19 from people that are still interested, pretty good result for quite old software.
It is a pity that it was not brought further, I agree with that part.

luckybackup has never been well integrated in KDE.

"development of luckybackup is almost frozen" means it will very likely be dropped one day from testing.

Main alternatives: kup-backup, grsync, borgbackup / depending on the real so called "backup" need.

Conclusions

Thanks for the information guys, I had used Luckbackup for a while, I do have an alternative but would on liked to have gone back to luckybackup. I was unaware that is was no longer (or barley supported) so I guess now is as good a time as any to part company with it. I have an alternative which seems to be working OK so my backup needs are covered.

In regards to testing being testing I am well aware on the position of testing v stable, I have been playing with Debian since Woody and have used a Debian based distro's always preferring a testing based distro.

I will consider my question answered
