How do I install kernel 4.4 in Debian 10

#1 Post by JellyBean »

Hello,
I'm new to the Debian forum.
I've installed 32bit Debian 10 Buster to an Intel Atom netbook. The default kernel is 4.19, but I would like to replace it with kernel 4.4.
The reason for this is that my netbook (Samsung N145) has always seemed to run more smoothly on the older kernels, e.g. less resource
hungry.

However, 4.4 doesn't appear to be in the Debian repository, so how do I install it?
I did search here on the forums and did google this, but couldn't find anything helpful.
Many thanks in advance for any help with this :-)

Since that kernel is no longer supported and has no security updates, I would instead suggest the 4.9 kernel from Stretch, which does have that support. You should of course set a system restore point beforehand (backup program or Timeshift).

So can I install linux-image-4.4.200-antix.1* and linux-headers-4.4.200-antix.1* directly onto Debian 10 from the antiX repository ?
