For any hardware for Linux avoid anything cutting edge new. Having said that, Wifi cards have been around for a long time and really only have one job to do : connect. I have a Qualcomm Atheros AR922X in the machine I'm typing on and have used it reliably for many years. My laptop came with a mini Realtek which kept dropping connections so I replaced it with an Intel and never looked back. The problem with the Realtek may have been a lousy software driver which is an issue that can drive users nuts. Whatever you get, make sure you install any relevant Debian firmware.

Code: Select all
empty@E485:~ $ lspci -knn | grep -A2 Wireless
03:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Intel Corporation Wireless-AC 9260 [8086:2526] (rev 29)
        Subsystem: Intel Corporation Wireless-AC 9260 [8086:0014]
        Kernel driver in use: iwlwifi
        Kernel modules: iwlwifi
empty@E485:~ $

Very reliable but needs firmware-iwlwifi from the non-free component.

Agree with Intel and Qualcom/Atheros chipsets producing less headaches than you can get with Realtek, Ralink, or (gag) Broadcom devices.
The MX Linux repositories: Backports galore! If we don't have something, just ask and we'll try--we like challenges. New packages: Kodi 18.5, Blender 2.8.2, 5.5 kernels, Openshot 2.5.0, Telegram-desktop 1.9.14, LibreOffice 6.4.1~rc1
