Debian buster was frozen back in December so 3rd generation Ryzen support may be patchy, backports can help though. Check compatibility with a live ISO image.

BTW, other motherboard recommendations are welcome (a colleague recommended an ASRock B450 or 350 motherboard).

Looking to upgrade as well and would welcome any comments

It appears for some Buster works better than Bookworm - testing.
Recent post elsewhere. The poster did not say the specific changes he made after going to the stable branch in his "bios"

No, I am not suggesting you to not go with Debian. I am typing in Debian stable. Hopefully others wil post their success in Debian.

Re: Ryzen 3900x with debian 10? does it support it?
I'm using a 2nd Gen Ryzen with Asus B450 motherboard and the only problem I have is not being able to read temperatures, it is a known problem with my setup and hopefully given more time it will get resolved, other than that it has been working great. Although if I were to upgrade to a 3rd Gen I would likely use Bullseye in order to expect the same results.
