Hello,
i have a computer with a MCP77/MCP78 chipset and a Realtek ALC888 codec.
With a old Slackware and self compiled kernel there was a automatic switching, means sound came out from rear panel line out until a headphone was plugged in in front panel headphone connector. Then the sound was played only in the headphone, rear panel line out muted.
Switching to debian, i have only autio output in the rear panel line out connector. Front headphone connector is muted.
I can manually change this with alsamixer, F6 and unmuting "Headphone" and maximizing volume, and minimizing "Front" which actually is my real panel line out.
Then i get manually what i want.
But does one know how to activate the automatic switching, so that a demon/driver is monitoring if a headphone plug is connected?

Re: Automatic Switching of Headphone/Rear Audio does not wor
Is the "Automute" option enabled in alsamixer?

Re: Automatic Switching of Headphone/Rear Audio does not wor
It seems that my system does not have automute:
/usr/bin/amixer -c 0 sset "Auto-Mute Mode" Enabled
amixer: Unable to find simple control 'Auto-Mute Mode',0
/usr/bin/amixer -c 0 sset "Auto-Mute Mode" Enabled

Have not used alsa directly for some time, but do have a faint memory that after changing alsamixer settings you had to reboot, or as root: alsactl init
