Hardware vs software raid - "easiest" to use?

#1 Post by LordByron »

I'm setting up a new hp gen 10 dl380. I have two mirrored drives for the OS and 8 drives which I'll configure with raid 6.

I'm trying to decided which is better to go with for the raid 6, software raid or the stock hp hardware raid.

I'm aware of the arguments with regards to performance etc (nice article here https://skrypuch.com/raid/) but am curious if anyone who has used the hp hardware raid could comment on the ease of use. Or to be more specific, which one would consider easiest to work with when something goes wrong (and its 3 in the morning and you're tired / stressed etc etc)?

Thanks
