Partitioning ssd

#1 Post by pythagorasmk »

I have bought new computer with ssd. I have never install operating system on ssd. I wnt to be dual boot, windows + Debian. Is there any difference between partitioning ordinary hard drive and ssd. Also, what to choose, MBR or GPT?

No.

You'll need a GPT disk for Windows if you want to boot in UEFI mode (to take advantage of Secure Boot): https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Du ... imitations

Be sure to also boot the Debian installer in UEFI mode or you won't get a menu entry for Windows: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Du ... imitations

How to boot debian installer in UEFI mod?
Also if I use GPT, and if I use USB Hard drive for backup (not for boot) but with MBR, can I access the hard drive?

Make sure that UEFI is enabled and that Legacy mode (also known as CSM) is disabled in your firmware ("BIOS") options.

Same as you would with an msdos ("MBR") partition table on the system drive, it shouldn't make any difference.
