today I noticed continuous disk activity on my system
on checking the system monitor / processes I noticed that nemo-desktop was running 6% cpu activity and writing disk continuously
I stopped the process and then could not click anything on the desktop to activate although access through ordinary nemo still works
I did recently move a bunch of image files from /Desktop to /Desktop/aux -- to reduce clutter .
any clues or help will be appreciated !!

Sounds like indexing to me. Look up how to disable that for your super-secret mystery desktop environment.
