How do I secure my wifi?

#1 Post by rocky »

This is my first post here. Recently, My friends and I went through this horrible time period where a guy from our workplace hack our wifi and ultimately hack into our conversations and credentials. After this dilemma, I am very much curious about my wifi security. The problem is that with my increased daily workload I can't research the solutions. All I want is a basic checklist to check every time and it would be more good If I can have a solution as a product. Which can secure my connection once and for all whether I am at home or not? Do you guys have any idea about this?

Good advice above.

My Asus router has maximum security level enabled, but the WiFi is only as strong as the password: I tried to break into my own network a few months back with Kali Linux, and it took seconds from the attack started and until I had recovered the password.

Needless to say, I changed from a short password to a passphrase. (Good luck getting that one.)

The iwd package leverages the abilities of the kernel to provide a more secure alternative to wpa_supplicant but the version in buster is pre-release. And the sid version isn't very reliable in my experience, which is a shame.

Don't know any. Have you read the manual of your wifi router?

Well, I have been suggested to use my own created vpn too. The issue is that I don't have time to run this service or maintain it regarding my daily increased workload. That's why I asked for a suggestion from you guys and wanted a solution which I don't have to maintain and which can work on my phone, router, laptop, etc whether I am in a cafe shop(which I am a frequent visitor) or at home. From review sites, I came to the few services which are in my budget. It would be so kind of you guys if you can recommend any service considering my situation about your experiences etc.

Thanks in advance :)

At the least, follow the instructions with your router/modem and set the firewall to maximum protection. It's just a click, nothing to configure.

You may also need to install and configure firewalls on all of your devices, particularly the portable ones. You can encrypt all your files.

The most important protection is your own street smarts. Don't put anything on your computers that you aren't willing to share with the world. Stay off of social media which has stealing your data as a business model. I shouldn't have to say this but just in case, stay away from porn sites; the pictures are bait.

If you have a secret, don't tell anyone.
