Smalest install possible

#1 Post by Wismerhill »

Hi all,

I'm looking for a way to make the smalest installtion possible. so far i haven'tbeen able to get below 5GB of hdd (well its the size of the virtual disk, not the size of its files) and 256MB of ram ...

i'd like to reach below 32MB and less than 1GB of ram ....

basically, i created a lab on my laptop. i'm using a pfsense as gateway/firewall. to that firewall, i have connected an "internal nic" that simulates my LAN, an "external wired nic", an "external wifi nic". both those nic are used as WAN (they each are linked to the specific interface of my lapop) i would like to establish a VPN connextion to the school (always a student). it is a l2tp - ipsec tunnel. Pfsense can't connect to it since it is no client but a server, and the limited ressources of my laptop are just that ... limited.

so i just thought i would setup another VM that would only be there for the vpn connexion, but i'd like not to waste ressources that are already scarese.

Thaks for your time...
regards

If you want a minimum installation, only check the 'standard system utilities' option in the 'Software selection' step.

Not a good suggestion since the project is dead and the 'current' releases dates to 2008!

To O/P - even a debootstrap debian install is takes up c250MB.
antiX with runit - lean and mean.
