No http after upgrade from jessie to stretch

#1 Post by Kordian »

Hello,
I upgraded Debian 8 to 9.
After that no internet pages can be displayed. Use apache.
I am such a great admin that I have no clue where to start (browsers show no connection error only).
Ofcourse everything worked before, ports on routers open, no changes there.
Could it be that a new version of apache was also installed and some stupid detail is missing?
Could somebody point me in the right direction, please?
Thanks in advance!

Did you follow the detailed instructions for that procedure that were given in the release notes for Debian stretch?

Check the logs. Debian stretch uses systemd so you can avail yourself of the journal, for example:

Code: Select all

journalctl --unit apache-htcacheclean --unit apache2
There are also a pair of template unit files for the above services but I don't use apache so I'm not sure how it all works.

This will show your enabled apache services:

Code: Select all

systemctl list-unit-files --state=enabled --no-pager | grep apache
Use that information to decide for which services to filter with the journal. Or just trawl the entire journal (possibly with the --since= option), the problem could be elsewhere.

Disclaimer: I'm an amateur user rather than a professional sysadmin and I've never managed a server (http or otherwise).

Thank you for your support.
However it looks like an internal routing issue as when I am not inside my vpn, the pages start working.
Strange, as it worked with Debian Jessie.
Can it be this resolv.conf issue where the file gets overwritten?
Have to check this.
Anybody awareof what mighthave changed to cause the issue?
