Failed install now stuck.

#1 Post by Jonkers71 »

Hello everybody.

I had an install fail and now I am stuck and can not get the system to boot the USB again.

When the system starts I can briefly see so error pop up put it’s so fast I can not read it. Then GNU Grub v2.02 loads.

But that is all that I can do. I have tried delete and all the f-keys to try and get a bios USB boot but have had no luck. Any suggestions would be great.

Not enough information.
I had an install fail
Exactly what happened? What did you see? Why do you think it failed?

What is the MAKE and MODEL of your computer, or can you tell us the basic specs.

Do you need to access the BIOS? Can you not just change Boot Order?
I had an install fail
Before asking?

Make a video and view it frame-by-frame to catch the error message.

I had an error message during the install.

I can not remember the exact wording but it was something about it not confirming the name of the system/os. Thought it was my stick so thought I would redo it and then try again. Now I can not get it to boot from the USB again.

It’s an old hp laptop. Will see if I can find the model number.

I see... Ubuntu and its derivatives like Mint uses a different installer.
Before to go to grub you see some info, that's fine this is your kernel that is said something, than you see grub, but after you don't see anything? Is that right?

Which is the mobile GPU of this Laptop? Which is the model of your laptop?

While the general assumption that old hardware is well supported by Linux is true it doesn't apply at all to the Laptops. A lot of laptops are assembled with exotic and specific hardware that never see a floss drivers and sometimes can be very hard make these chips working properly.

Without any information your issue might be a "modeset" mis-configuration, however the parameters apply based on you hardware and without knowing it is hard to lead you somewhere...

By the way you can take a look at these page regarding your hardware compatibility with the Linux Kernel:
