[Solved] fresh install on hp pavilion G laptop: error

#1 Post by peer »

I get the following warnings after installing debian 10 xfce during the boot proces:
do_IRQ: 1.55 No irg handler for vector
do_IRQ: 2.55 No irg handler for vector
do_IRQ: 2.55 No irg handler for vector

And I get the following error:
[drm:radeon_pci_probe [radeon]] *ERROR* radeon kernel modesetting
for R600 or later requires firmware installed
lspci gives:

Code: Select all

00:00.0 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD] Family 12h Processor Root Complex
00:01.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] BeaverCreek [Radeon HD 6520G]
00:01.1 Audio device: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] BeaverCreek HDMI Audio [Radeon HD 6500D and 6400G-6600G series]
How can I get rid of the warnings?
Do I need firmware for the radeon card?

The irq warnings can generally be ignored if the system runs fine, as they result from problems in the systems UEFI or BIOS firmware, and there's not a lot a casual user can do except try to update that firmware or try a different kernel.

At first I did not find the solution. After googling a second time I did find the solution on the AtiHowTo (https://wiki.debian.org/AtiHowTo). Strange that I did not find this page earlier.
I just needed to install the package firmware-linux-non-free

For the install of xfce I used the "firmware-10.3.0-amd64-netinst.iso". I expected that the firmware would be included but it did not. Next time I will use the standard install iso again.

General good rule of thumb ... Always Google thy error messages. Highlight, right-click, search, WHAM ... answer popped up. :)
