Is not wayland is all gnome that by default don' t allow root to log in.Head_on_a_Stick wrote:It's not broken, Wayland doesn't allow a root user by design.Scorpion wrote:Gnome login by default doesn' t let you login as root.
And it does not remember the root credential (name: root) and the selected GUI, unluckily this time by default you have wayland.
Can it be fixed?
Here's a thought: perhaps the developers know better than you...
I had to edit the /etc/pam.d/gdm-password file.
Others GUI allows root by default.
On stretch wayland was not the default option.
I can' t use yad on wayland and it does not have the restart option.
Re: Does pulseaudio have an alternative?
After changing the default alsa output/input do I need to reboot?
It seems that there is no app to do that, you have to manually change /etc/asound.conf or the user-specific ~/.asoundrc.
I tried qjackctl, can I use it to set the default output/input? Not sure how it is suppose to help me.
Can one of them provide a way to adjust the volume of the apps that are in use? Like pavucontrol.
Edit: the alternative is pipewire: https://wiki.debian.org/PipeWire#Using_ ... ACK.2FALSA.
I am using and it's working fine, I use pasystray and pavucontrol (but no PA).
In "/usr/lib/systemd/user" I had to remove "ConditionUser=!root" from "pipewire.socket" and "pipewire.service".
Same for "pipewire-pulse.service" and "pipewire-pulse.socket" in "etc/xdg/systemd/user".
