Recovery datas from external hdd

Hi, some years ago i've commetted some mistake on my hdd.
Now i need to retrive datas from my external hdd. There is a new partition on it, but i remember did not formated the disk, so now i see the disk empty but i know my files are still there.
How to get my files back? also a raw way is walcome.

You could try "testdisk", it is in the main repository and I have used it before to test disks that had been re-formatted and managed to retrieve a lot of the data from it. I think the tool is more guided towards popular image formats (images/videos/text) but it might do what you need. The man page should give you enough guidance to get you started.
As with any operation of this type BACK UP THE ENTIRE DISK FIRST to ensure you lose as little as possible! Or not really, your data, your choice :D
