I'm using mate netspeed applet, mate sensors applet and system tray. If you keep it running for few days it will eat 600M+

mate-panel 1.20.5-1
mate-applets 1.20.3-2

A memory leak? unlikely to be Debian-related. Did you look at the code for the panel applets? Or cab you name them so that we can look?

It depends how Debian manage packages versions. I do not know if debian will keep old packages + patches in favour of recent versions with fixed leaks.

Maybe it will be fixed in next update:
