bluetooth (BT) driver kidnapped for ransom ;-)
bluetooth (BT) driver kidnapped for ransom ;-)
Hi
In medieval time: rich Glazier in a town hires hooligans to break all windows..
I successfully installed Debian9 on my NUC7 a few weeks ago -- I like it. My BT Microsoft mouse was working w/o any problems, that has been recognized from the 1st time! Thanks to System Developers.
This morning I did boot my favorite Stretch and can not turn the bluetooth on -- verdict: the rich Glaser deleted the BT driver -- >
ibt-12-16.sfi file not found in my entire drive by root!
I tried to install it but the driver is NOT FREE!!

Can you eliminate hardware failure?
What *exactly* did you try to install? And anyway the message in your dmesg output is about firmware rather than drivers, the two are not the same.websystem wrote:I tried to install it but the driver is NOT FREE

Re: bluetooth (BT) driver kidnapped for ransom ;-)
By the way it is not installed WiFi Intel on my NUC7, It connected via NEC card, I thought this package(s) might help

Re: bluetooth (BT) driver kidnapped for ransom ;-)
There is no hardware failure because BT and WiFi work on Win10 as 2nd boot.

Steve, I would appreciate for an explanation what happened with my BT (mouse). The BT worked during few weeks and suddenly stopped to work. I did not do any system changes. I do Node.js web development on my Stretch only, and little chess play
Any idea how to fix my BT?
What log shell I bring?

Re: bluetooth (BT) driver kidnapped for ransom ;-)
I had similar problem - my NUC worked perfectly for ~6 months and then suddenly BT stopped to work and WiFi slowed down to few kB/s.websystem wrote:The BT worked during few weeks and suddenly stopped to work. I did not do any system changes.
I have disassembled the module (it's an M.2 2230 BT/WiFi card) to read the specs from the sticker, and then I've mounted it back - and guess what? - both WiFi and BT started to work just like it should.
I'm not sure what exactly have happened, but it looks like a problem with the M.2 socket and/or with plugs/sockets for antennas.

Thanks, LE
Thanks everybody
I resolve the issue:
1. Logged in to Win10 (2nd boot)
2. Turned Off/On bluetooth several times
3. Did boot back to Stretch and BT is working!
What surprised me -- Debian admin must pay for drivers:
https://packages.debian.org/search?keyw ... re-iwlwifi
Worked as sys admin and SDET for Microsoft in Redmond for 12 yars.
Microsoft is money focused, but never charges for drivers.
Thanks everybody

Re: bluetooth (BT) driver kidnapped for ransom ;-)
First, these are not drivers but firmware packages as alredady pointed out by HoAS and stevepusser.websystem wrote:Thanks, LE

Second, the word 'free' has nothing to do with payment (FREE as freedom, not as free beer):

Thanks, cooler
I am new in Debian/Ubuntu and I like it!
Nice to know, that Linux user does not pay for packages.

That's true for packages in Debian's main repository and similar for other flavours of Linux. There are also a lot of commercial packages from various companies for which you do need to pay eg. Steam games. I use a great audio production program called Harrison Mixbus 32C which retails at $US349 (I got it on special though).websystem wrote:Nice to know, that Linux user does not pay for packages.
