Cannot Burn Cd in neither Brasero nor XfBurn

#1 Post by DocTomJP »

I seek help please. I have searched in the forum, and I cannot find a solution.

I am running Debian Buster (all up to date) with the Cinnamon desktop, on an Asus laptop.

I am trying to burn a few photos (jpg files) to a CD-R, but neither Brasero nor XFburn will complete the job. Both eject the disk after the initial read phase, before any burn has occurred. The error messages say fail to burn or something similar.

The Brasero error log is very long, but I think that the relevant part is .....

called brasero_job_set_current_action
BraseroLibburn SCSI error condition on command 2Ah WRITE(10): [3 0C 00] Medium error. Write error.
BraseroLibburn called brasero_job_set_current_action
BraseroLibburn Libburn reported an error SCSI error on write(0,16): [3 0C 00] Medium error. Write error.
BraseroLibburn called brasero_job_error
BraseroLibburn finished with an error
BraseroLibburn asked to stop because of an error
error = 1
message = "SCSI error on write(0,16): [3 0C 00] Medium error. Write error."
BraseroLibisofs stopping
BraseroLibisofs Getting out thread
BraseroLibisofs disconnecting BraseroLibisofs from BraseroChecksumImage
BraseroChecksumImage stopping
BraseroChecksumImage disconnecting BraseroChecksumImage from BraseroLibburn
BraseroChecksumImage closing connection for BraseroChecksumImage
BraseroLibburn stopping
BraseroLibburn closing connection for BraseroLibburn
Session error : SCSI error on write(0,16): [3 0C 00] Medium error. Write error. (brasero_burn_record brasero-burn.c:2856)

I am sorry but I do not understand this, and I do not know what to do to get the files burned to CD.

Can anyone help please?

Tom.

Are you sure you try to burn the right side of the media?

No doubt that's because the issue is not with xfburn or brasero - it's much more likely to be a hardware issue. Note that OP in the link tried on a different machine and it worked fine.

Gentlemen : many thanks for your contributions. I am sorry to be tardy with my response. I was called away to hospital.

I have tried a number of things. Now I have found that I cannot get the CD player on my laptop to work with anything, not in Debian, nor in Windows, neither to play an audio CD nor to burn anything. In Debian I cannot get the device to mount. So I have come to the conclusion that the device is non-functional. I am sorry that I did not realise this earlier, and perhaps so avoided a waste of your time.

I guess that I should try one of the CD cleaner kits, but failing that I suppose that a trip to the repair shop is the likely solution.

Thanks once again for your attention and advice.

Tom.

Repairs are likely to cost more than a new drive. They are rather inexpensive now that they're becoming obsolete.
Take my advice, I'm not using it.
