krename
KRename is a very powerfull batch file renamer, It allows you to easily rename hundreds or even more files in one go
The filenames can be created by parts of the original filename, numbering the files or accessing hundreds of informations about the file, like creation date or Exif informations of an image.
https://linuxhint.com/krename/

Its features include:
  • renaming a list of files based on a set of expressions
copying/moving a list of files to another directory
    convert filenames to upper/lower case
    adding numbers to filenames
finding and replacing parts of the filename
rename Mp3/Ogg Vorbis files based on their ID3 tags.
    setting access and modification dates
    permissions and file ownership
a plug-in API which allows you to extend krename's features
    rename directories recursively
    support for KFilePlugins
    create undo file
    and many more...

KRename is great but is so powerful I struggle to work out the correct syntax of expressions to use sometimes. It is very much a KDE application too so if you install it in another DE it will pull in a lot of KDE dependencies.
I find my go-to is the Bulk Renamer in Double Commander.

There are some kde flatpaks applications, such as okular, dolphin, kmail, kalarm..... curiously, there's not krename in their repositories.. thought I guess you could build your krename flatpak so that, you woulnt need to keep installed all thoses dependecies....

I have not yet built any snap or flatpak.. I wonder if it's easy task or not.. :| I would like to find a dummy tutorial about this to learn how to do it.

iwgtk

A lightweight, graphical wifi management utility for Linux. It's only dependencies are iwd and GTK3. Supported functionality is similar to that of iwctl(1).

Not packaged for Debian yet but I'll be making one for bullseye once the freeze starts.

https://www.nomachine.com as a twice fast alternative to ssh + vnc. Uses its own protocol nx and by default encrypts connections. I have experienced nx connections to be twice as fast than ssh + vnc. As an added bonus it also transports sound from the remote machine. Has mobile apps for ios as well as Android.
Please disregard if nomachine has already been mentioned in this thread. This thread is now 900 kms long and I might have missed if nomachine has already been mentioned here.

That Photogimp looks pretty good. There was a Gimpshop many years ago which did similar.
Now if only it didn't need any steenkin' flatpak or snap, I might try it. :|

I think you dont need to install it, you just need to copy some files in 2.10.X profile..

https://github.com/Diolinux/PhotoGIMP
This build is all about flatpak, but it also contains "just files" that you can use on any version of GIMP (.deb,.rpm, Snap, AppImage, Windows, macOS). Just check the localization of the GIMP files on every system/package.

Big fail. I copied files to location stated on that Github page. No change in GIMP interface at all. There's an included file "How to Install PhotoGIMP's Patch.txt" which reads:
Just Extract all *hidden* folder to your home repository
.icons
.var
.local
Only works with flatpak version for GIMP.
Which exactly contradicts the "any version" statement.

I don't need no steenkin' flatpaks.

shutter
Shutter is a feature-rich screenshot program. You can take a screenshot of a specific area, window, your whole screen, or even of a website - apply different effects to it, draw on it to highlight points, and then upload to an image hosting site, all within one window.

sudo snap install shutter
sudo apt-get install shutter

The existence of such program makes little sense for Me -> it looks like a mix of standard screenshot tool and gpaint ;)
IMO it's reinventing of the wheel, and the project will never get even close to what GIMP or Inkscape offers for editing images.

faststone Capture, deepin, Flameshot...all of these capture image apps bringhts onboard a shapes and notes image editor, so you can add same inmediatly anottation to your image, adjust bright , crop it in the same app, then you save it, and update the capture image with the annotation..its very cofortable and useable..
The advantage of Shutter or Fastone capture (wine) over the rest of them, is that it allow you svg shapes edition, so once you create the square, arrow or circle you cant still go back and edit it (change the size, color or position)... other image capture editors, only create a raster shapes so you cat edit them eventually.

If you like this kind of app, I stronglly recommend you a freeware version of Faststone Capture (wine and v9 is ok)..faststone its even much better than shutter.

I think gpaint in same way than kolourpaint, are only raster shapes editors. :!: .you cant edit the shape once is drawed...
So, Its no the same, it would be the same if you used LibreofficeDraw or Inkscape plus capture tool.

Microsoft's Edge browser

Now available for GNU/Linux:

https://blogs.windows.com/msedgedev/202 ... dev-linux/

The .deb package is available from here: https://packages.microsoft.com/repos/ed ... _amd64.deb

Post-install scripts add their repository and a cron job to restore it if it is removed but the key has to be added manually or APT will refuse to update the sources afterwards:

Code: Select all

curl -L https://packages.microsoft.com/keys/microsoft.asc | sudo apt-key add -
