The grub version 2.02+dfsg1-20+deb10u2 is available for upgrade. May be update cache? Also, take a backup of the /boot folder with /boot/efi and /boot(if on a separate partition) mounted before the upgrade. Worst case if you are unable to boot restore the backup from a live cd.

This all reminds me a bit of the old debian forums in the late 1990s.
Thank you so much, yea, don't you miss back when it was "the good old days", I do.
Have a good day,..

I don't see any reason it would be any different then on a internal drive. The commands are the same on either. Unless the external drive does not have grub on it or something else different.

Code: Select all

# dpkg-reconfigure grub-efi-amd64

yeah i misinterpreted what was being said.

safe to say, chrooting into the box and reverting to grub from stable has resolved the issue for me.

still trapped?
Does it boot to grub> or grub rescue> ?

You'll need to load luks to enter the key and open a slot, then run grub.cfg if you have the path...
...then when up update grub.

Post back if still stuck, I've done this one.
