please advice how to install the latest version of Audacious player (4.0.5), on debian 9.
The version from the Debian default package repositories is out of date (3.7.2-1)

Currently at 4.0.4 in Sid, but you may be able to update that /debian folder to build 4.0.5's source. But that's not-as-simple backport creation.

Wow, it has out for a while, hasn't it? I forgot 4.0.5 was in my own multimedia backports repository:

Oh, the libaudcore symbols files change for those particular builds. I can fix that, hang on a bit.
