Root User can't login to VNC or Desktop

#1 Post by vvarrior »

I screwed something up with the username on my linux debian buster distro. I made the user root and realized it was poor practice to do that then removed the user from root. I did this a few months ago. I haven't needed to login to vnc or the console since then but I when I just tried to login, I wasn't unable to. The username/pass is correct, as I can login via telnet with sudo privileges.

From the console menu, I am able to login via root/password but not user/password - the login screen keeps coming up after I login. How can I restore my user to login via console/vnc?

Thank you in advance.
