[SOLVED] Bluetooth headphones connected but no sound

#1 Post by misket »

Hello everyone,

I have a pair of earbuds that used to work flawlessly, but recently they stopped working, I don't know why and when. I still can connect them via blueman, and can see and select them in pulseaudio menu's default sink section, but there is no sound.
When I play a music or start a video, it immediately gives some kind of a background noise, when i stop or pause the media, this sound stops too.
It is strange, I used to use them without any problem. I don't know if this is happened after I made a few updates.

They are selected as A2DP, I tried re-pairing the device, reinstalling pulseaudio/pavucontrol, nothing happened. I tried running the script here: https://gist.github.com/pylover/d68be36 ... 5e6ed6e7ae

Here is the output:

Code: Select all

Connection MADE
Selecting device:
1. D9:11:82:21:56:DE IP010-X Pro
2. CC:61:E5:A2:6A:59 berkant
Select device[1]:

Device MAC: D9:11:82:21:56:DE
Device ID: bluez_card.D9_11_82_21_56_DE
Sink: bluez_sink.D9_11_82_21_56_DE
Updating default sink to bluez_sink.D9_11_82_21_56_DE
Setting the off profile
Disconnecting the device.
Connecting again.
Cannot find `bluez_card.D9_11_82_21_56_DE` using `pactl list cards short`. Retrying 15 more times
Device ID: bluez_card.D9_11_82_21_56_DE
Setting the a2dp profile
Updating default sink to bluez_sink.D9_11_82_21_56_DE
Moving stream 0 to sink
Moving stream 4 to sink
Exiting bluetoothctl
"Enjoy" the HiFi stereo music :)
Nothing changed, problem remains.

Have you checked https://wiki.debian.org/BluetoothUser/a2dp

I think Debian Wiki is the best place to start with Debian specific problems.

Yes I did check this page. There are four possible issues in the troubleshooting section:
  • - Refused to switch profile to a2dp_sink: Not connected
    - Unable to control volume with volumeicon-alsa
    - a2dp-sink profile connect failed [...]: Protocol not available
    - aptX (HD) and LDAC codecs are not available to be used with my device

and I think none of them provides a solution to my problem.

Here is something I just discovered: When I connect another bluetooth headphone (Jabra), it works. Also another thing, right after I connect to my IP010-X Pro's, when I play a media, I think I barely hear something for a second. Then again, only this background noise, like if it is muted.

I can select the device as audio sink. There is a section for device in pavucontrol Output Devices section. Everything seems to be working fine, but no sound!

As I said, since last week I was using these headphones without any problem on Debian, and I still can use them with my mobile phone. I really don't know what the problem is.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Bluetooth_headset

May give some hints. Search engines are your friend.

I got mine bluetooth headphones working following Debian wiki, so I have no first hand experience of trouble shooting.

Generally command line is preferred in those situations, as it gives error messages, like in the link above.

EDIT: Do you really need that github script?

Thanks for the advice.
Actually, posting to a Linux forum is not the first thing I do when I come across with a problem. I do usually check wiki pages, then forum posts concerning similar problems, in fact, that is how I found this github script.
Anyway, I don't really know how, but my problem seems solved right now. Although I tried re-pairing for a couple of times from blueman GUI, this time I re-paired them from terminal and now they are working without any problem.
