Help: dead keys get immediately written

#1 Post by efrpcabo »

Hi,

Sometimes, when I'm using Zimbra webmail, the dead keys get immediately written.

Normal:
when I type `+a I get this à

Abnormal:
when I type `+a I get this `a
This also happens for all others dead keys.
It seems that the dead keys stops waiting for the letter pressing

Then, I have to restart my computer in order to things go back to normal.
I've googled, but couln't find a solution.

Can somebody help?

Just to say that, after my initial post, this started happening also with other apps (like Geany, etc).

If someone could help me, I would really appreciate.

I see a Portuguese keyboard layout. Which desktop environment do you use? XFCE?
If so, the keyboard app in Settings should be checked. The first tab "Behavior" contains settings about how long the system waits for key repeats and how fast they are repeated. Mine are set to a delay of 500 and a repetition speed of 20. My keyboard layout is Belgian AZERTY and it has dead keys as well.

That's exactly my settings.
I haven't touched them since install, which is about two years or so.

I haven't modified my settings and can't understand why this happens.
Also, if I restart, the problem is gone until some hours after.

So, since I can't find this problem's source, I guess I could run some command to restart some service, but I don't know which one.

Can you please do

Code: Select all

localectl list-keymaps | grep pt
before and after you've lost the dead-keys?

Sure.
Here is the before output:
$ localectl list-keymaps | grep pt
Couldn't find any console keymaps.

When it happens again, I'll post here the after output-

That won't be necessary. If there are no keymaps now, there won't be any after the deadkeys problem.

Currently, I have no idea why that happens to you. I use a similar setup, although mine is a Belgian AZERTY keyboard with dead keys, and I have never had a failure to produce a dead key.

Hi,

Just to say that I never solved this, but this stopped happening since I stopped using Zimbra webmail and started viewing my emails in Thunderbird.
