why sometimes it is sudo locked

If none of the more specific forums is the right place to ask

why sometimes it is sudo locked

Postby MagicPoulp » 2021-02-23 08:02

every time I start my computer, I run this:

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get -y dist-upgrade

But sometimes, it says the sudo lock is blocked.
Why?

Usually I run the command again until it works. But sometimes, it never works, and I have to reboot and then it works.

I suspect gnome of doing lots of super user activities with the lock. It happened before I installed gnome but not that much.

Probably it's fetching package lists in the background. Do you have an update notifier running? I get the same in KDE, Discover is updating it's list shortly after login. A few more seconds later it releases the lock.

Yeah good point. Maybe apt-get update will start things in the background.

But I think it is more the fault of Gnome. I do not agree that gnome has so much power on my computer. It even showed me once a dialog saying it can update the BIOS and other drivers.
