Etch net-install from the business card iso

Official businesscard images for the stable release
http://www.us.debian.org/CD/netinst/

It's about 37 MB, i put 'expert26' at the prompt, did a minimal install, partitioned the drive manually, gave Debian 28 GB of a total of 80:

hda1 / primary 10 GB
hda5 swap logical 400 MB
hda6 /home logical 3 GB
hda7 /var logical 5 GB
hda8 /usr logical 5 GB
hda9 /tmp logical 5 GB

Ext3 has been good to me, so i left it there.
installed the base system, chose the 2.6 kernel, installed Grub on the root partition, rebooted, took the defaults on exim4, later i will install postfix.

it gave me a choice of:

Stable
Testing
Unstable

chose Testing, skipped the packages section, at the end did:

# apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade

installed my favorite apps:

# apt-get -y install xserver-xorg-core icewm menu aterm ratpoison sudo xfe xchat xzgv iceweasel numlockx unclutter xtrlock apmd firehol zip unzip bzip2 deborphan debfoster localepurge xfonts-terminus joe sysvconfig x-ttcidfont-conf

I'll install pine later on.

configured 'firehol' (my firewall) together with a new kernel for my Sempron processor (linux-image-2.6-k7) got rid of 'hotplug', installed 'xorg' as warned by Debian, rebooted, did a

# dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg (no auto-detection)

fixed my .xinitrc:

***************************************************
#!/bin/sh

numlockx &
unclutter &

icewm
***************************************************

saved and exited

$ startx

c'est bon!

Nice write up Lou. For those business card cds, did you use the real small cd or a regular size cd?

I tried putting that small one in my cd player once, and it didn't work.
