How to install KDE 4.1 beta 1 from experimental

Not an issue of interest to me, but since a DD took the time to lay it out in pretty complete detail, those of you who use the lesser destop environment might want to check it out.

I'm using it at the moment. It represents a huge step forward from KDE 4. I give props to the KDE people.

Same here - now that kmail has been added, the only program I am still missing is k3b.

The kde3 version works and so does the one in kde svn if you feel like compiling.

For some reasons I can't install it at this moment in Sid, I can't wait though, I heard that it's a big improvement over the 4.0

Funny as it sounds, one of the killer app for me is System Monitor kicker applet, I hope it's available or is going to be soon. I like the idea to be able to monitor with one look the status of my system, System Monitor is the best small app and I hope KDE developers didn't forget it.

To save you some trouble, Adrian, if it has been ported, it is not in the repos yet.

Where can I beg KDE developers to port it? I'm willing to even donate money for this :)

Another interesting blog entry showed up on the Planet. This one evidently from a different member of the Debian's KDE packaging team in response to someone who claimed it was still too buggy. Evidently the KDE maintainers are hopeful that 4.1 will get in Lenny.

I hope it does because I don't use it, but I know that it includes some real technical advancements. Having those advancements in Stable will encourage Gnome, and the Debian Gnome team to work harder at catching up. We (Gnome users in Testing and Unstable) will quickly reap the benefits while avoiding some of the headaches.

Thanks for the link rickh. I installed it on a test box just to see the latest rage. It is okay, I will be interested in seeing the finished product but it is not going on my regular box until then.

MUCH improved...very interesting...very cool.... I actually like the 'start menu' even though when I read about it I thought it would be crappy. It is a bit 'too much' for my taste but it is pretty awesome...

I'm keeping an eye on threads like this for this same reason. I want to give KDE4 a place on my machine but I'll wait for it to get polished up.

I think KDE 4 coming to unstable will be incentive to switch to something like IceWM.
